Denna söndag föräras Kevin E. Trenberth vars dikt skrevs julen efter att Al Gore och IPCC fått nobelpriset. Endast på grund av Climategate 2 har vi nu fått möjlighet att läsa hans verk.

- Our First Nobel
Our First Nobel, for the IPCC,
Goes to Beth, Bette, Bill, Jerry, Kathy and Guy.
Kevin, Linda, Paty, Re-to and so many more,
And we’re sharing the honor with Mister Al Gore. - Nobel, Nobel, a story to tell,
We hope our coworkers’ egos don’t swell.
The First Working Group said to sound the alarm,
Rising CO2 levels are causing great harm.
Temperatures and greenhouse gas are racing up neck and neck,
Soon the whole Earth will be hotter than heck. - Nobel, Nobel, the planet’s unwell,
This is the future the models foretell.
The Second Working Group said that change is assured,
& gt;From the melting of glaciers to migration of birds.
& gt;From loss of land and crops to habitats,
How can they make it much clearer than that? - Nobel, Nobel, the oceans swell,
Polar bears search for new places to dwell.
We must work to mitigate, tells us Working Group Three,
Change from fossil consumption to clean energy.
If we all do our share in reversing the trend,
Our children might have a clean Earth in the end. - Nobel, Nobel, sound the warning bell,
Let’s make a future where all can live well.

Can an Oscar be far away?

Kul är rätta ordet. Jag håller med!
Riktigt roligt. Kul att det finns humor även bland allvarsamma vetenskapsmän.
Men jag kan ana att han inte hade vågat skämta så om han vetat hur det skulle komma att användas.

It’s all been analysed and proved and broadcast on TV.
The planet’s into meltdown and it’s mostly down to me.
They’ve run computer models and the truth is crystal clear:
Unless I mend my ways the human race could disappear.

There’s floods and droughts and hurricanes, heatwaves and lightning strikes,
Which goes to show that we all should be riding bikes.

I sometimes leave the lights on when they’re really not in use.
I always shave electric though there just is no excuse.
Last night I turned the heating up, I’m quite ashamed of that.
I know I should be wearing woolly mittens and a hat.

I didn’t mean to do it, didn’t know that I was bad,
And when I think how much I use the car it makes me sad,
But for each Tornado mission flown to pacify Iraq,
I could drive a Kia Rio to the bloody moon and back.

”Piratebay” förstörde datorn: Värst var när lösenordet vid uppstart sades vara fel. Jag kom dock in vid andra eller tredje försöket. Sedan plockade jag ner Ad-aware, som hittade felfilen, c:program files (x86)\application updater\applicationupdater.exe
– Nu kör jag ”säkrat”, så gott jag kan, tills vidare. Betyder bl.a. att jag inte kan se video. Adobe Flash Player hör till det Ad-aware ogillar. — Ingen större förlust!

Finns ett helt gäng med linux-distributioner, gratis och med all programvara du kan önska och inga virus att oroa sig för. Har du en hyfsat stor hårddisk kan du installera det parallelt med windowsskräpet. Finns som livecd också så att du kan testa utan att installera.

Nja, jag bytte till Windows när de kom, 1983, och känner mig inte riktigt i form nu för att lära mig Linux… Men tack i alla fall för tipset!

Windows kom 1985, ser jag. Dessförinnan hade vi HP (utan skärm, tre textrader) som vi körde Basic på. (Program måste man göra själv; fanns inget att köpa.) Sedan fick vi PC med Windows som julklapp, 1986 tror jag. (Men fortfarande måste man göra slut-programmen själv.) Vi var ekonomer, och låg som jag minns det långt före teknikerna i utveckling. Vi gjorde program som man hade praktisk nytta av.
